This week in yoga, I shared the following words as contemplation for the day:
“The things that excite you are not random, they are connected to your purpose”
What excites you?
I did some contemplation on that myself and was suddenly reminded on how I came to yoga. Rummaging in the attic of my parent's home, I found a yoga book. Nobody had ever talked to me about yoga and I had not heard about - this happened nearly 40 years ago... I clearly remember reading the story of a woman in the foreword of the book.
I was fascinated, I was excited.
I started practicing yoga from a book.
The rest is history...
I had never thought about what sparked that excitement and for the longest time I thought it was because I had an affinity to moving my body and I loved reading. I also loved exploring.
After the yoga class this week, it hit me what really rocked my boat back then: it was the story of transformation through yoga the author had described. It was the insight that we have an influence on how energetic and motivated we feel. That transformation was the key, not the movement, or the book, or the rummaging in the attic.
Then I looked back to points in my life where I felt fully present and full of energy, excited: Those situations all held transformation and the recognition of energy in my body.
I made my affinity to transformation my hobby and my profession - but that does not mean that's the way to go with "purpose". I want to relax the topic a bit. There is a bit of a hype out there in the moment, that everybody should find their purpose and act accordingly in order to be happy. I find that an risky viewpoint as is too narrow and can lead to the exact opposite - a constant searching and resentment to what is.
My pledge is to simply NOTICE what makes you excited and see purpose not as the quest to the holy grail, but to the one constant in your life that is always there - but needs awareness in order to unfold.
If you want to buy a red car, suddenly there are so many more red cars on the road. Really? No - but you are more aware of them, because you have primed your brain to notice red cars.
My invitation to you this weekend to NOTICE what excited you - that way more of it coming your way!
You may want to contemplate on the situations in your life when you felt excited and energized. What do these situations have in common? What is the "red car"? Honor that.
May you be peaceful and at ease.
May you be well in body, mind and heart,
May you accept yourself completely,
just as you are at this very moment.
May you be held in loving-kindness.
With love and light
Mel
