One-Thing-Warrior

"The fastest way to still the mind
is to move the body"

– Gabrielle Roth

Last week I had the pleasure of dancing with wonderful people. Just like that - for fun. No special moves, no agenda, just dancing.

It made me feel very present. Nothing else mattered.

Today I came across the above quote from dancer Gabrielle Roth. Before that I was reading about the concept of a "One-Thing-Warrior" in my daily journal. Since I was looking for a topic for today's Mindful Musing, I thought I'll bring them together:

  • Moving the body to still the mind and

  • Being a "One-Thing-Warrior" this week

Finding solutions to challenges can be hard when there are too many options. Once we narrow the options down and focus on whichever solution we decide on, life is much easier.

We have the solution to all challenges at our fingertips these days, especially if you are already accustomed to using AI. But: having a myriad of possible solutions is confusing and may make us restless and unsure of what to do.

How about being a "One-Thing-Warrior" this week and getting used to falling back on ONE solution, every time we encounter a challenge or have to make a decision?

I decided whenever I am feeling stressed this week, I will move my body. I won't necessarily dance every time I am feeling stressed as that may not be appropriate, but maybe I rub my fingertips together or I walk on the spot or I nod my head a couple of times.

Moving my body acts as a circuit breaker to the situation I am in.

When I am feeling stressed, rushed, overwhelmed or whatever else, chances are that my brain operates from fear - our fight, flight, freeze response switched on. That is great when you are in battle or have to run from the sable-tooth tiger, but not so much when you have to make sustainable decisions in modern times where thinking is needed - not running.

It is no secret anymore that our mind and body are intimately connected. Whilst your brain is the master control system for your body's movement, your way of movement also affects how you think and feel. The way you think and feel is how you perceive your life.

What situation continuously bothers you?

What could be ONE THING you have ready as a response to it? In what way could that involve moving your body?

This is a FIRST STEP approach. The ONE THING movement might not solve your challenge, but it may move you one step forward, instead of staying put.

When I feel stressed today - I will move my body - and THEN decide what to do next. I will be a ONE-THING-WARRIOR this week.

My invitation to you today:

  • Create your personal ONE THING response to a challenge you may have - possibly involving moving your body.

This is your time.

With a nod of my head

Yours kindly

Mel
